Emily Borghard, LMSW

Emily Borghard, LMSW, is a dedicated clinical social worker at Columbia University Irving Medical Center’s Department of Neurology, specializing in care for patients with epilepsy and multiple sclerosis. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in French and Spanish and a Master’s in Clinical Social Work. Since 2022, Emily has provided compassionate support to individuals navigating chronic neurological conditions, utilizing her expertise in mental health, crisis intervention, and culturally competent care. In addition to her clinical work, Emily is the Founder and President of Sidewalk Samaritan, a nonprofit organization based in New York City that delivers essential items such as clothing, food, toiletries, and blankets to unhoused individuals and families facing hardship. Established in 2018, Sidewalk Samaritan has grown into a trusted partner for hospitals and service providers throughout the city, offering practical aid and dignity to those in need. Emily’s commitment to social justice and community service continues to drive the impactful work of the organization.

What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to having the vision and determination to create my own nonprofit organization, Sidewalk Samaritan, and the perseverance to see it through. Building something from the ground up that serves others has been both challenging and deeply rewarding, and it continues to inspire my personal and professional growth.
What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values most important to me in both my work and personal life are compassion, advocacy, and service. I’ve always had a deep awareness of the needs in the world and a strong drive to take meaningful action. My wide capacity for advocacy fuels my commitment to making a positive difference wherever I can.
